JUSTICE MATTERS OFFICE ASSISTANT

Start Date: September 2025

Schedule: Part-time, 15-20 hours per week

Location: 9th Street Outreach Center (9th and Tennessee), Lawrence, Kansas (in office, not a remote position)

About Us: Justice Matters is an interfaith coalition of 13 congregations and two neighborhood networks who are building the power of organized people to hold systems accountable to act fairly by pushing them to become more equitable and just. We are looking for a committed and detail-oriented candidate to join our team to assist the organization in managing the administrative operations of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

Finance

  • Make deposits, pay bills, cut checks, prepare reports, and create invoices.
  • Prepare and mail invoices and dues statements to member congregations.
  • Prepare and send members pledge to investment reports quarterly.
  • Prepare annual reports to members regarding annual giving for tax purposes.

Communications

  • Manage the organization’s email and written mail
  • Assist staff with communications, including website maintenance, email updates, calendar invitations, monthly newsletter, and posting to social media
  • Assist staff in making phone calls for meetings and key events

Data 

  • Maintain a database of organizational contacts
  • Maintain organizational tracking forms
  • Create reports and other materials for member congregations 
  • Maintain spreadsheets with critical information

Organizational Support

  • Attend and help prepare for organizational events
  • Assist with grant reporting
  • Ensure that the office is physically set up for success with essential supplies

Essential skills and characteristics: 

  • Core passion for justice and equity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Meticulous, detail-oriented, concerned with accuracy
  • Experience with Google Workspace, NationBuilder, Canva, Zoom, Facebook, Microsoft Office, Quickbooks Online, and MailChimp preferred
  • Strong numerical abilities (ability to understand and work with numbers effectively. It encompasses a range of skills, from basic arithmetic to data analysis)
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Comfort working with faith communities and a genuine respect for the faith traditions of others
  • Open to feedback and coaching
  • Must be able to use stairs as the office is located in a basement
  • To assist with setting up events, the office assistant must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 10 pounds up and down stairs and a distance of 25 feet

Compensation and benefits:

This is a part-time position of 15-20 hours per week with compensation of $20/hour, dependent on experience.
